Why Walters Cove?

The Lodge

Kyuquot Sound offers some of the world’s best salmon and halibut fishing just minutes from the Resort. With a maximum capacity of 24 guests, the floating lodge (formerly The Lodge at Englefield Bay, previously operated by West Coast Resorts) provides a comfortable home to come back to after a great day of fishing. The lodge features 12 guest rooms with twin beds and en-suite washrooms with showers. Enjoy the hot tub, sit back in the comfy lounge and savor a premium cocktail from the bar, shoot a game of pool, play some cards or just kick back and relax outside on our spacious deck! Maybe you’d like to go for a walk on the trails on an Island through old growth forests and enjoy some solitude on a secluded beach! Other amenities are complimentary Wi-Fi and use of the lodge’s paddle boards and kayaks.

The People And Service

With an almost one-to-one staff-to-guest ratio, service at Walters Cove Resort is truly exceptional. Our seasoned team is trained to anticipate your needs, deliver thoughtful details, and consistently exceed expectations. They understand that our success is built on lasting relationships—and those are earned by creating unforgettable experiences for every guest, every visit.

Our guides bring extensive local knowledge and years of experience fishing the waters of Kyuquot Sound—many of them call this coast home. They know precisely when and where to fish, how tides and weather influence movement and feeding patterns, and how to deliver a day on the water that is safe, productive, and genuinely enjoyable. Fully trained and certified, our guides are passionate professionals dedicated to providing the caliber of fishing experience you expect—and deserve.

The Food

While fishing may be the main reason you visit Walters Cove, we know the full experience of your stay is just as important—and nothing defines that better than the quality of our food. Start your day with a hearty breakfast buffet, enjoy homemade soups and comforting lunches at the lodge, or take packed lunches and freshly baked snacks along for your day on the water. Fresh fruit and treats are always available to keep you fueled for adventure.

After a day of fishing, return to the lodge to relax with a selection of appetizers before indulging in a three-course gourmet dinner. Crafted from the finest ingredients, our signature dishes feature local seafood, hearty meats, and fresh vegetables prepared in styles to suit every palate. One night, immerse yourself in local tradition with salmon, butterflied on cedar sticks and cooked over an open fire—a culinary experience you’ll never forget.

The Fishing

One of the last relatively untapped yet accessible saltwater fishing destinations on the west coast of North America, Kyuquot is world-renowned for its extraordinarily productive salmon, halibut, and bottom fishing—with an exciting new opportunity emerging for albacore tuna.

Massive runs of Chinook (King) and Coho (Silver) salmon travel the famed “Salmon Highway” along British Columbia’s west coast, following the 50-fathom line south. What sets Kyuquot apart is a vast offshore feeding flat positioned between this migration route and the entrance to Kyuquot Sound. Anchoring the southern edge of the flat is a mile-long reef that naturally holds fish in the area before they continue their journey—some bound for rivers as far south as California.

Adjacent to a protected Rockfish Conservation Area, this rich habitat supports thriving populations of salmon, halibut, lingcod, and bottomfish. Deep canyons extending from the continental shelf drive nutrient-rich upwellings from the Pacific, fueling plankton blooms, dense baitfish schools, and the apex predators that follow.

The result is a rare convergence of structure, nutrition, and migration—a remarkably consistent saltwater fishery and the foundation of Kyuquot Sound’s legendary reputation.

The Equipment

Walters Cove is proud to outfit every guest with only the finest equipment available. Our fleet of 23’ Grady-White Gulfstream 232 vessels (or similar) are designed for comfort, safety, and performance. Each boat is powered by a 300 HP Suzuki four-stroke engine, paired with a 20 HP Suzuki kicker for quiet, exhaust-free trolling and dependable days on the water. Onboard amenities include a private flush head (bathroom), high-powered Scotty electric downriggers, species-specific rods, premium Islander & Avet reels spooled with top-quality line, and modern, reliable electronics.

When the weather turns classic West Coast, we’ve got you covered. High-quality, clean Helly Hansen Armour rain gear is provided to ensure you stay warm and dry without sacrificing comfort. At Walters Cove, your comfort, confidence, and performance on the water matter just as much to us as they do to you.

Your Fish

DSC00265.JPG

The fish that you caught and brought home is how you will remember your trip throughout the winter.

We recognize that your prized catch is something you share with friends and family. After being weighed, recorded and photos taken, your fish are cleaned and filleted as soon as they come to the dock! You have choices of how they are cleaned including cutting each fillet into meal sized portions as small as one pound. We have a Provincial Processing License which permits us to prepare sport caught fish in pieces smaller than standard DFO regulations allow. All your fish portions are individually vac packed, labelled and then put into our dedicated fish freezer within minutes to get you the freshest product possible! Unlike most other lodges, this service is all included in our package pricing!
